AmerenUE is asking for another rate hike — this time for $263 million a year. Most of the money would cover the costs of investments that the utility is making to improve the reliability of the electric grid and reduce pollution.
The utility filed its request Friday [...]
AmerenUE has had three rate increases in the last three years. In addition to the 10 percent increase in June, there was an 8.1 percent increase in 2009 and a 3.3 percent increase in 2007.

Ameren UE Will Become Ameren Missouri

Starting in October, Ameren Corporation will be doing business under two newly named subsidiaries.
Ameren UE will become Ameren Missouri on October first.
Ameren CILCO, ameren CIPS and Ameren IP will also merge and become Ameren Illinois Company. Letters were mailed Wednesday to inform customers of the change.

“The company [Ameren] added that higher net fuel costs for power plants account for about $70 million, or 25%, of the company’s requested rate hike.” Do you get to demand a pay raise when gas prices go up? Or, is this just an unfair advantage of Ameren’s virtual monopoly!?

Ameren’s Missouri utility subsidiary AmerenUE Friday asked the state’s Public Service Commission to approve a $263 million rate increase to recover investments it made in infrastructure and environmental projects, the St. Louis-based company said Friday.
